In all the designs, the same principles of combination of: light and shadow areas were always sought, to cause air currents, which in the hottest times would cool the environment as much as possible. This was combined, whenever possible with: fountains, interior patios and vegetation that contributed to the desired effect.
The truth is that we were able to verify that the objective had been achieved, since in some sectors of buildings under construction, comfort, at 50ºC in the shade, with relative humidity that could reach: 70% to 80%, was far from being unbearable.
Apart from the inspiration in Andalusian architecture and our desire to export Spain, technical criteria of spatial importance prevailed. The construction had to be carried out with concrete block, so the design of separation walls between plots, to maintain the required privacy, imposed by the Arab cultural bases, was embellished with elements of artificial stone, extremely cheap, which aside from to beautify, they strapped the whole, against the tremendous pressure of the sandstorms.
In the villas, as a final corollary to our design criteria, we can only reproduce, as before, a paragraph by the Writer Maryam Jameelah from her book: “Islam and Western Society, to which special attention should be paid:
..... ”We know that a glass wall allows more than ten times the heat input than a wall of adobe, or brick four inches thick and that a wall of 3 by 3 meters, directly exposed to the rays. from the desert sun, allows the entry of about 2,000 calories / hour into the interior, requiring two tons of refrigeration per hour. .................... That is why the Architect who builds such a wall in Kuwait, or Riyadh, for example, and from there, a very expensive refrigeration plant is proposed, to allow the space to be habitable, it is unnecessarily complicating the problem, by insisting on a style of Architecture, totally abnormal for the climate and geographical conditions, not to mention the violation of the culture and spiritual customs of the inhabitants "
So in all the designs, the patios and
fountains are constructed in a way that all the houses overlook them so as to
produce shade over them and therefore reduce the internal temperature of the
patios and the villa.
For the same purpose, in some of
them, transparent coverings have been planned that allow the entrance of light
from the exterior. Some of them, by their specific location could be gardened
and converted into an aviary with exotic birds that could complement perfectly
the noise from the water.
The right, perfect and positive decision from
our clients honour themselves much more than ourselves by the full support that
we found in Dubai.
